We provide beds, blankets, and food/water bowls, so you don’t need to pack those. Please bring your dog’s food in pre‑measured bags for AM and PM feedings to help us keep their routine consistent.
If your dog has a favorite comfort item, you’re welcome to include it. Just keep in mind that dogs can behave differently while boarding, even items they never chew at home may become tempting when they’re feeling stressed or excited. For that reason, please avoid items with stuffing or anything that could be swallowed.
Rusty’s Retreat is not responsible for damaged items.
No, we do not have any breed restrictions. We welcome dogs of all breeds and sizes as long at Rusty's Retreat. What matters most is that each dog is friendly, safe and comfortable with people and being near other dogs.
Yes! Boarding dogs at Rusty's Retreat are kept separate from other dogs unless they are signed up for daycare. They will be taken outside multiple times a day with staff and can be signed up for extra 1-on-1 play time!
Yes! Boarding dogs are welcome to join our daycare program. You’ll just need to sign the daycare agreement in addition to the boarding agreement. After completing a successful temperament test, your dog can join the daycare group.
Boarding pups participate in half‑day daycare sessions only. Being in a new environment can create a little extra stress or excitement, and shorter play periods help them settle in, stay comfortable, and enjoy positive interactions. This gives them plenty of enrichment while still allowing time to decompress and relax in their cabin.
If your dog becomes sick or injured while staying with us, we will contact you immediately. Whenever possible, we will take your dog to your listed veterinarian. If your vet is unavailable, we have established care plans with multiple trusted local veterinary clinics to ensure your dog receives prompt attention.
Our team will keep you updated on your dog’s condition and follow all instructions provided by the veterinarian to ensure the best possible care.
Dogs are grouped based on their energy level and play style, so everyone has a safe, enjoyable experience. Throughout the day, they’ll spend time playing with friends, enjoying a variety of staff‑led activities, and rotating between active play and restful breaks. This balanced routine keeps dogs happy, engaged, and comfortable from drop‑off to pick up.
Daycare is available Monday-Friday. There is no daycare on the weekends.
Drop-off: 7-9am
Pick-up: 5-6pm
A temperament test is simply a meet‑and‑greet that helps your dog get familiar with our staff and the facility. During this visit, we observe how your dog responds to new environments, new people, and other dogs, and we learn what type of playgroup or routine will help them feel the most comfortable.
This step ensures we make the safest, happiest, and most enjoyable choices for your dog during daycare or boarding.
Puppies are welcome to join daycare once they meet our full vaccination requirements (Rabies, Distemper/Parvo, and Bordetella) and are spayed or neutered. Once your puppy is fully vaccinated and altered, they can join the fun and start making friends at Rusty’s Retreat.
Our team is trained through PackPro, which covers dog body language, group management, and canine first aid/CPR. Dogs communicate constantly, and our staff stays actively engaged, watching for changes in posture, energy, or behavior that signal when a dog may need space, a break, or a slower pace.
By understanding each dog’s comfort level and adjusting the environment as needed, we keep playgroups safe, balanced, and enjoyable for every pup.
If your dog seems uncomfortable in their group, our staff will make adjustments to help them feel safe and happy. This may include moving them to a different playgroup, placing them in a smaller or calmer group, or providing one‑on‑one play and enrichment instead.
If your dog continues to show signs that daycare isn’t enjoyable or the right fit for them, we will contact you to discuss next steps and make sure they have a positive experience at Rusty’s Retreat.
